20190720 + J's Prank

20190720 + Up at the crack of dawn and on the road. Attempted to swing through the McDonalds on the edge of town but that was as expected, a complete disaster and loss of 10 minutes: I got on the highway with no food and will NEVER go to that McD's again. 2 hour and 45min later I arrive at camp. As in years past I head back to the campsite to hurry the boys along. As I arrived at the camp I ran into Roger and asked how camp went, he replied 'Good fro some of us, not so good for others'. I asked if he was referring to my boys and he just made a sound like 'Eh'. Uh Oh what did one of my idiots do??? In to camp and immediately Rob, the Scoutmaster, said he needed to talk to me, this is not how i expected this morning to go... Rob called me over and Jack and another boy to let me know that Jack and his friend decided to do nothing all week, got no merit badges and failed to get their Pipestone. Several explanations were made and blah blah, but J was about to die when he pulled out his 5th year Pipestone and let me know it was all a joke and everyone, all Scouts and adults, were in on it. They got a good laugh as they saw me go from 0 to J Dead in a flash. Relieved, but still going kill J for doing that to me... Lowered the flag in the camp and then we hiked back tot he cars and everyone told talked of the week and how much fun they had, how good the Winger boys were... Got my boys int he car, gave them their clean clothes and pop and candy bars and we headed to the Dutch Kitchen in Dalton for lunch. On the way the boys told story after story of the funny and goofy and good things that happened. To the restaurant and we got the tables reserved and claimed. Soon the others showed up and we had a feats. Back on the road and the boys got their phones so they went silent... To the Farm and stopped for a quick visit with Gma&paW, where the boys told them the highlights of the week. Back on the road before we all fell asleep with a quick stop to look over the woodshed at the Farmhouse; it is not savable... On the road, stopped for gas and then nonstop to church to pick up the blue cards and on home. Home and J loved his desk and the other things L did in his room. J&G got cleaned up. L at D's 2 games of the day in record high heat advisories... J&G, all cleaned up and glued to their electronics and I attempted to rest a bit. Eventually L&D got home and J&G retold their stories of adventure. L&I out to pick up some last minute things from Home Depot and swung by Chipotle & Cane's to get dinner. Home and we all sat down together and ate and more tales were told as we all got caught up on what happened over the last week. After dinner J decided it would be a good idea to spend the night at a friends... and the rest of us watched the new 'Shazam' before heading to bed.

20150502 - Fisherman G

20150502 - Up in am getting things done at desk, G paying xbox. L took J to his soccer game, I got D up. All home for lunch and L&J to D's baseball game, G&I to a Scout camp out at Madison Lake State Park. We got there and got things set up and then went fishing. There was a family there that obviously knew more about fishing than I would ever dream was possible to know that helped us out. G caught some fish... We took a break for dinner and then more fishing... We hung out at the camp fire for just a bit before going to bed. Nice evening, perfect weather.

20140427 + Cold Start

20140427 + Up to a clear COLD morning. Had bfast and packed up and helped get the Pack stuff loaded up.  JG&I took a nice hike and then caught a geocache on the way out. Home and everything cleaned up and put away. L&D home from church and D cooked lunch. After lunch we got to some yard work; helped the neighbor lady remove some brush, cut the dead out if the crab-apple tree, spread 40 bags of mulch. D&I split off and he did his bi-weekly fitness merit badge stuff and we brought pizza and wings home for dinner. All yard and homework done and we watched 'Master of Disguise'.  All boys to bed and L&I exhausted followed.

20140426 - Lake Camping

20140426 - Up rainy morning, ran errands, got hair cut.  L back to banks, left boys at home.  Home for lunch, D's game cancelled, going to play with 7th grade team.  JG&I packed up and went camping with the Cub Scouts in Delaware.  Set up, Fishing, Nice dinner, program and flag retirement. Bed in good time, we were warm and slept well.

20131123 - A Scout Thanksgiving

20131123 - J&I up to the chill of a beautiful frost covered morning. We had a biscuit and sausage gravy bfast with the Old Crow patrol and then helped the boy's patrols get ready for there Webelos Day. Soon about 30 younger Webelos Scouts (including J) showed up to spend the morning with the Boy Scouts to learn how a Troop works and go through some stations to learn some skills.  The Scouts started with a very professional and impressive flag ceremony.

J started out wanting to go home, but soon turned that into 'I'm not cold, I want to stay!'.  So we stayed and he had a great time.  Home after a great camp cooked chili and cornbread lunch.  J&I got cleaned up and finished up pamphlets and got things together we needed to take to dinner. L&G home from shopping and we all sat down to watch some OSU Football.  Back out in the cold, bundled up for a Scout Thanksgiving dinner.  The food was great, the presentation was not too long and we didn't freeze to death.  It is really nice to see all the families there together, there were over 100 people there.


D wanted to come home with us, but he is a Patrol leader and needs to stay and lead the little ones...
The rest of us home and turned on the fireplace and relaxed while watching college football.  To bed in good time.

20131122 - Cold Night

20131122 - Up and into work, had my favorite meal (#171) for Fiesta Friday lunch!  Home and ate with the fam, L took D to church to meet up with the Scouts at 6.  J&I changed, packed and headed to the campsite.  We got our tent up in the dark and ready for a cold night.
When the scouts showed up D directed his patrol, and J&I helped the Old Crows get the pavilion set up.  J then went with a senior scout and got a lesson in lashing and helped build the entrance to camp.  IT was really cool.



We had enough of the cold so off to bed at a decent hour.  We tied our cots together and zipped our sleeping bags into one big one.  I held on to J most of the night and he was toasty warm, but we did wake up a couple of times chilly.  Not bad for 29 degrees...

20130518 - Race for the Cure & Camping

20130518 - Up L downtown to Race for the cure with GmaB and Nicole.  J to Boy Scout campout with friends, G baseball 19-1, McDs with Owen then to D's game. Home packed and to Tar Hallow State Park to meet up for the camp out.  The boys had a blast exploring and playing.  It rained a bit but didn't dampen out spirits :-)

20110813 - Camping in Style

20110813 - Up and hanging out, a neighbor stopped over to get help with his Google Apps. L&D out shopping for school supplies. D had baseball practice and then we loaded the family up and went to Dillon State Park to the Woods' camp site.

The kids ran crazy and when they burned out a bit they went in to watch a movie. The big people sat out and chatted about all sorts of stuff. Really good time and very enjoyable. Drove home and straight to bed.

20110803 - Camping Buddies

20110803 - Up and at the desk all day. Dinner with the fam-D. After dinner J&I ran out to get gas a hair cut and some supplies for tonights camp out; J is having two of his buddies sleep over in a tent in our backyard. When we got home one of his buds Connor was already there playing with G. We got our stuff unloaded and L&I sat on the back patio enjoying this perfect evening. Pretty soon we were summoned to the play room where the JG and Connor gave us an unforgettable performance of Thriller and Sweet Home Alabama :-) Then Donovan showed up and the fun really got going. G tried his best to keep up, but with no nap today... well let's just say he was a little grumpy and in their faces... I read a book to G and got him settled in and then onto the back porch with the laptop as the boys ran through the pitch black yard having a nerf war. They got settled into the tent and I had stashed some Oreos and water bottles in there for them. The had their snack, told some stories, farted and laughed and laughed. They got to sleep with the bug zapper as a night light and.

Now I'm in J's bed writing this post as G didn't want to stay upstairs all by himself tonight :-)

20110731 - Back Pack Bigger?

20110731 - Up and D&I to the gas station to get him some last minute supplies (candy) for his week at camp.  He didn't seem nervous and is excited because he is going with a whole group of guys he knows.  Back home and picked up the family.  Stopped by for a quick check in with the Scouts and then on the road ahead of the group to drop off J&G at the Farm.  We made it to the Farm and dropped of the little guys and ran down the road to wait for the Scouts to catch up.


Before long we were in the Scout caravan heading East.  Everyone stopped at a little dairy stand past Wooster for lunch and it was a good meal, I had the 'Nightmare' (cheeseburger, hamburger, coney sauce, coleslaw, slice of tomato).  Not to far down the road the 'Nightmare' caught up with me and I had to make a 'pit' stop.  Good thing I did, D needed to stop as well.

We got to camp and unloaded.  D turned in his pipestone wood, his bundle was really good compared to many of the bundles...  We stayed with him for medical form review and pictures, then hung back and followed the group to the campsite.  After D found a bunk-mate and settled in he took and passed the swimming test. L&I watched this and then said goodbye to our biggest boy, but the smallest scout in his Troop.  He was happy and ready for us to leave.  Some of the other Scouts and leaders assured us they would be watching out for D this week.

Back on the road and we made it to Paulette's for a dinner in Ashland where we got our little boys.  We had a quick nice meal and then got back on the road.  I had to pull off at a rest stop for a leg stretcher after all the time in the car and G helped me find a geocache.  Home around 10 and got the boys in bed, me too, long day...

20110723 - Hot Rain

20110723 - Up in the morning and J and I packed up the car and headed to John Bryan St Park. We got there and the Scouts that spent last night here were at the Air Force Museum in Dayton. So we pitched our tent in the extreme heat and headed into Yellow Springs OH to check it out. We found some unusual stores there and a Subway where we picked up lunch. Back to the camp site to eat and it POURED!



We sat under the shelter and watched it rain. Soon the rain stopped and the other Scouts arrived and the boys were off playing it the woods. The rain didn't cool things down any, it just got stickier... Yuk!
We had a good dinner and then tried to make a snare trap but gave up and went geocaching. We found one but not the other, it was too dark.



The boys roasted some marshmallows and J fell asleep sitting up in his chair. Everyone to bed. I'm now going to try to sleep in this hot pea soup...

20110416 - Wet Camp

20110416 - J woke me up at 6:45 :-o so out I went in the cold and got a fire going. The night was VERY WINDY, WET and COLD but we stayed dry.  Soon J joined me by the fire and another father son team as well and we cooked a splendid breakfast over the fire. 

We welcomed the other Scouts as they arrived and got set up and J was off with the other Scouts exploring and climbing and doing boy stuff.  We had stations during the day so the boys learned something.  L&G came out for a visit and a walk and liked out campsite.  There was even a BB gun range where we got to test our marksmanship. 

Dinner was served and J was ready for bed (7pm :-)  I got him into dry clothes and he was ready for more. We had s'mores at our campsite and then the Pack met for some skits and songs. Into the shelter for some chess and Texas Hold'em. Everyone headed off to bed and we were put by 9:30, exhausted from a really fun day.

20110415 - Cold Wet Wind

20110415 - Normal day at work, pretty fast.  Gma&paB over for a visit.  J home from school and we had to load up and hit the road fast, looks like rain is coming!!!  We got the campsite and got our new tent set up.  IT IS AWESOME!!!  we got our firewood and everything set up.  Others showed up and we helped them.  Then it started raining.  But we were tired and got to bed in good shape.  J fell right asleep, took me a while with the storm/rain/100 mile/hr wind and old trees :-o

090703 - Camping

090703 - Up and got a couple things done while L took the boys out this am. Then for some reason we decided to spend the night outside... What was I thinking?? Here Grant gets his first taste of the fireworks for the upcoming days... The camp out was successful, This was Jack's first outside campout (Granny slept in his bed inside), and the boys wanted to go to bed about 12:30.

090418 - J - Soccer Game, D - Baseball Prac, - Scouts, Spring Camp out

081011 - Camping

081011 - Up and L ran to register Howdy for bastketball this winter. Dylan & I packed up the car w/ the camping supplies. We all grabbed some lunch, I caulked the beams and then we went to the halloween store to get the guys suited up. Then Howdy & I headed to the camp site. We got there & Howdy vanished w/ his buddies into the woods, (I saw him for a couple of minutes when the food was ready...) I got the tent up and a couple snare traps set to show the boys. Now we are sitting around the fire relaxing.

080419 - Fireside

080419 - Up in the am and off to baseball practice then ran some errends w/ Howdy. We stopped by home and then off to a camp out. Even though it was raining we had a nice dinner, a hike and saw some bats and heard some owls, smores, flash light tag, glow stick and sitting by the fire.
